About This Location
From Alton, Mo., take State Highway 19N for 2 miles to County Road AA heading east, at County Road AA turn right and travel 9 miles turn left onto Whitten Church road (FR4144/County Road 137) and travel 2.2 miles to the access site.
This is both paved and gravel roads with a steep section when coming down into the access site.
The Whitten River Access is located on the right bank of the Eleven Point National Scenic River. This is a popular launch and take out site on the river. There is a vault toilet and single-lane concrete boat ramp located at this access site.
This is a popular day float with visitors travelling downriver 8 miles from Whitten to Riverton. Visitors also enjoy the 11 mile float from Greer downriver to Whitten. You will find this to be busy on weekends with both motorized and nonmotorized users.
Free Dispersed camping in the Mark Twain National Forest’s Doniphan / Eleven Point Ranger District. Reservations are not accepted at this campsite. The road in on 137 was almost 3 miles and rough and narrow.
There was no AT&T or Boost mobile signal. There is a nice cleared area with a fire pit in the middle and probably would fit 3-4 vehicles. No one was there on a Saturday afternoon.
