About This Location
Highway 182 north of Franklin is a wonderful section of road with several gorgeous lakes. Look for blue signs. There is a parking site at the top of a huge hill, only a turnout and a small area in the trees. Will be calm till morning traffic begins.
However, further north, you will notice a blue lake sign on the right and an opposing sign on the left. Tunk campground. It’s a simple gravel road that leads straight in for perhaps a half-mile or more. Finally, there is a tight back in to turn about. No LARGE VEHICLES!!! There is no way to turn around.
A medium-sized RV or very compact trailer is sufficient. There are NO REGULAR anticipated camp sites, but there are plenty of places to pull over to the side and make yourself at home. Very quiet and tranquil! There are no outhouses, but a lake further south contains one. If you enjoy PRIMITIVE, this works and will never disturb you. Can stay indefinitely and explore the many gorgeous lakes around.
Small camping just off the road. The road is not maintained throughout the winter, and there is a hill leading to further campgrounds, so bring 4WD/AWD or tire chains. Luckily, there is one campsite before the hill, so I was able to park my Honda Civic and spend the night in my tent. It was lovely having a fire pit. Lots of loud pickup trucks pass through the area, and the camping is directly off the road.
