About This Location

The road is paved. The campsite in the Rangeley, ME region is open year-round when accessible. There are 1-5 campsites at this area, with a maximum RV length of 15 feet. You can stay for 14 days (I believe) at the Rangeley, ME area campsite.

Three free campsites on the Dead River are located just off Route 16 between Rangeley and Stratton, Maine. Head northeast from Rangeley toward Stratton. They are on the left side of the road, soon after crossing the Dead River bridge. You only need a permit if you want to start a fire.

I created the original listing for these free sites and have stayed at two of them, one twice. I am not sure what size RV can fit into these spots and turn around, but my guess of 15 feet is too little. I believe you could fit any compact RV into these sites. They are very private and back up to the Dead River. At least one of these allows you to launch a canoe into the Dead River directly from the spot and paddle upstream.

On the two days we tented there, the river was too shallow and swift to travel downstream. The Dead River empties into a gorgeous lake just outside of Stratton. It’s ideal for canoeing and wildlife watching. We’ve spotted moose each time we’ve stayed. The sites have no amenities, which is what we enjoyed about them :).

AMENITIES: ACTIVITIES:
