About This Location

*Interesting fact: Despite its name, the water in Poison Springs State Forest is not poisonous. During the Civil War, the Confederates spread rumors that the water was contaminated, expecting that the Northerners would avoid it and not use it as a water source.

This dispersed state campsite is clean and wooded, with plenty of space and level places. A 22-foot pull behind will not pose an issue. If you get past 30 feet, things may get a little tight. There are no amenities, and it is incredibly serene. As you enter the gravel road, there is a gun range, but the camp site is far enough away to not hear the shooting. This is an awesome place! Quiet, clean, and isolated. There are no restrooms, showers, water, or power

PSSF will be closed to camping from July 1-15, 2024 and March 23-29, 2025.
— Camping is permitted only. Permits are provided on a first-come, first-served basis for a two-week period beginning at 8 a.m. on July 15, or the following business day if July 15 occurs on a weekend. Visitors are recommended to make reservations in advance to ensure availability.

— No permanent or semi-permanent constructions (such as deer stands and lean-tos) are permitted. Temporary facilities built for the period of the two-week permission are permitted.
— No trees may be cut, damaged, or destroyed.
— Campfires should be kept under control.
— Campsites must be used within 24 hours of the permit date.
