About This Location
Beautiful camping along the river. Flat places for tents, picnic tables, and fire pits. We arrived in a conventional vehicle; the dirt route is extremely short and acceptable for any vehicles. Highly recommended. Verizon has no mobile service.
Cons: The trees make it difficult to maneuver a larger trailer. Also, the trees block any chance of charging batteries from solar panels, so we’d have to use our generator.
This landscape-scale conservation initiative, which lasted over a decade, successfully protected 252 miles of river and shore frontage from development and subdivision, while also guaranteeing that the region’s working woods could continue to contribute to the local economy. Recreational access is guaranteed indefinitely, contributing to the preservation of a scenic and popular backcountry canoe route (paddlers consider it more accessible than the St. John and less heavily used than the Allagash).
