Jean Roach dry lake beds boondocking: BLM land off of Las Vegas Blvd, near the 7 magic mountains (brightly colored rock art exhibit that you can’t miss). The BLM land is a dry lake bed that is used as a popular off-road racing site, mainly on the weekends. Place is great. Has Verizon service. Just recommend arriving before dark so you can see the dirt roads. Plenty of places to park.
Easy to find, easy to get to different spot options. Heavily trafficked by ATVs, but they didn’t bother me and were all gone around 9 pm. There were spots that would be farther away from the action but it was fine. Absolutely no shade.
About This Location
For anyone wanting to boondock close to Vegas, Jean Roach dry lake beds boondocking spot is a solid pick. The area actually covers two dry lake beds—Jean and Roach—so you’ve got options.
There’s a ton of space for tents or RVs. It’s almost hard to imagine running out of room.
The terrain’s mostly flat, with dirt roads crisscrossing the area. These roads lead you out to some more remote nooks if you’re feeling like a little extra privacy.
There’s no fee for dispersed camping or just hanging out for the day. But if you brought an OHV, you need to register it with the right authorities.
Make sure you’ve got a spark arrestor on your ride—nobody wants to be that person who starts a fire. It’s not just a suggestion; it’s required.
If you’re thinking about off-roading, stick to the established roads and trails. After it rains, the lake bed can get soggy—best to steer clear until it dries out.
There aren’t any hookups or facilities at the Jean Roach dry lake beds boondocking spots, so you’ll need to bring everything—water, food, trash bags, the works. It’s dispersed camping all the way, with no formal sites or services.
The Bureau of Land Management runs the place, so pay attention to posted rules.
For stargazing, it’s hard to beat the dark skies out here at the Jean Roach dry lake beds boondocking spots. Just keep an eye on the weather, since flash floods can sneak up after a storm.
It’s wild how close you are to the city, yet the night sky feels a world away.

Just a heads up: motorized vehicles are only allowed on existing roads and trails. Some of the surrounding land has extra restrictions, so double-check if you’re planning to explore.
