Campgrounds with a first-come, first-served policy are truly that. The forest does not maintain a site availability list.
All reservations require a minimum of four days advance notice. Site availability is determined on a first-come, first-served basis where available.

I read reviews that said the campground was quite tranquil. My kid and I stayed here for the night. There were maybe eight sites in total. I believe four of them were already full when we arrived at 4:30PM. We are hammock campers and required a site with trees, so we chose the first one on the left.

It was down a slope and heavily tree-covered, but it had a fire ring and was rather well-kept. Whoever stayed there before us left some trash behind, which we picked up. We didn’t have cellular service. Peaceful was an understatement. This was the quietest forest I had ever slept in. It is also really dark. There is absolutely no light pollution. I was unhappy that it rained that night since I was sure the stars would have been spectacular. Wonderful tiny free camping.
