About This Location
Wooded setting located on the banks of Walnut Creek just 20 miles west of Hot Springs. Charlton Recreation Area includes individual campsites, group camp areas, and a day use area providing picnicking and swimming in a cool stream.
Beautiful and peaceful campground and recreation area. Quiet campground near the highway. Day use area is very popular for grilling/picnics and swimming. Water in swimming area is cold and very clean. The water is so clear.
Rangers patrol frequently and so do the campground hosts. They patrol both the campground and the day use area. They make sure pets are on leash and fees are paid and that people are following the rules.
There’s a Civilian Conservation Corps built dam and cabin that’s been converted into a bathhouse in this campground. This is one of my favorite campgrounds. It’s first come, first serve but I have always been able to find a site.
